No-vig “true odds” calculator
Enter every outcome's price from one market. The prices add up to more than 100%: that excess is the book's margin. Scaling it out leaves each outcome's no-vig chance and its fair odds.
What the vig is
A sportsbook prices every outcome a little short. At -110 on both sides each side implies 52.4%, so the pair adds up to 104.8%: the extra 4.8% is the book's margin, also called the vig, juice or overround. It is why a bettor who wins half of their -110 bets still loses money. In the example above, -150 and +130 add up to 103.5%; without the margin the favourite is 58.0% (-138) and the other side 42.0% (+138).
How the margin comes out
Each outcome's implied chance is divided by the market's total, so the outcomes add up to exactly 100%. This proportional method is what SportsFathom's boards use when they set the model's chance beside the book's no-vig chance. It assumes the margin is spread evenly; books often load more of it onto long shots, so for a heavy favourite and a long shot the no-vig chances are an approximation, not the book's own view.
A three-way example
A soccer match at +150 home, +230 away and +190 draw adds up to 104.8% (4.8% margin). Without it:
| Outcome | Implied | No-vig chance | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home (+150) | 40.0% | 38.2% | +162 |
| Away (+230) | 30.3% | 28.9% | +246 |
| Draw (+190) | 34.5% | 32.9% | +204 |
The prices need to be from one book and one moment: mixing books or times can add up to less than 100%, which no single market does.
